The nominations for the 72nd Emmy Awards are in

The 72^nd Primetime Emmy award nominations are in! The upcoming Emmy award ceremony is a welcome break from the doom and gloom of recent events. The awards ceremony celebrated television which will continue to thrive after a difficult year. The nominations for this year’s awards were not surprising although there were some unexpected snubs towards streaming services when it comes to nominations, so here’s a look at some of the key nomination decisions.

FX series Snowfall was snubbed, despite going from strength to strength over the seasons; the show did not receive any love this awards season, a shame given the shows deep exploration of the crack epidemic in California.

Cult favourite, What We Do In The Shadows received a whopping eight nominations however including a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. The comedy show has evolved quickly from its original basic premise and has shown how capable it is of expanding beyond its niche to explore the world of the show in an interesting (and often hilarious) way.

Succession has also received some award show run with Jeremy Strong receiving a nomination for Best Actor.

Disney+ managed a total of 19 nominations (15 of which were for the Mandolorian). The Mandolorian earned a nomination for Outstanding Drama series but is unlikely to take out that category against Succession.

Better Call Saul actress Rhea Seehorn missed out on a nomination despite a performance on the latest season of the show, Zendaya however is tipped to win for her performance on the first season of Euphoria where she appeared as drug-addicted Rue. Watchmen has received nominations in the limited category and as of right now is likely to remain as a limited series with only a nine episode run. This is the first year that streaming services have overtaken traditional networks in terms of nominations despite some snubs for Emmy nominations and should make for an interesting awards ceremony.
